Winsor & Newton : Professional Watercolor Paint
From $6.47
Info
Since 1832 when Henry Newton and William Winsor introduced the first moist watercolors to the world, much of Winsor & Newton's reputation has stemmed from the Professional Watercolor range. Since then Professional Watercolor continues to be formulated and manufactured according to Winsor and Newton's founding principles; to create a top-quality watercolor range which offers artists a wide and balanced choice of pigments with excellent permanence.
Each color in their extensive range has been selected and formulated to offer the greatest choice so that artists can use a unique palette that best suits their work.
Professional Watercolor Tubes or Pans
Both Professional Watercolor tube and pan colors are made individually to the highest standards. Pan color is often used by beginners because it can be less inhibiting and easier to control the strength of color. Tube color is more popular overall, used by artists who use high volumes of color or stronger washes of color. Many painters have both - this is because pan colors are useful when travelling and sketching. Of course, artists can use both tube and pan together if they wish.
Formulation
In simple terms, a watercolor is produced by combining (or suspending) a pigment with a binder, for example, Gum Kordofan, a type of Gum Arabic. The formulations for W&N Professional Watercolors are each unique and vary according to the nature and behaviour of each individual pigment. With this in mind, and with a range which has thousands of different applications by millions of artists worldwide, they rely on expert chemists who have excellent knowledge in understanding and formulating Professional Watercolor.
Pigment Choice
Watercolor more than any other medium relies upon the variable characteristics of the pigments used. As it is essentially a staining technique, everything rests on the handling properties of the pigments; whether they can produce a smooth wash or a textured wash; how opaque or transparent they are; the brilliance and strength of their color; and so on. With this in mind, it has always been - and will continue to be - Winsor & Newton's aim to provide artists with the widest possible range of pigments to give them the greatest choice and flexibility.
Single Pigments in the Range
Wherever possible, single pigments have been used in Professional Watercolor to ensure that Winsor & Newton offer the widest choice of colors and pigment characteristics or positions, such as hue, particle size, transparency, tinting strength, etc. This helps broaden the artist's options. Single pigment formulations are purer in hue and cleaner in color than mixtures of pigments, providing a larger number of color mixes before resulting in muddy effects.
Mixed Pigments
Although mixed pigments inevitably lose some degree of chroma or brightness, there are many reasons why they still choose to formulate with them. In some instances, they can achieve a higher level of permanence over a single pigment alternative, e.g., Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Hookers Green. In other instances, some pigments have to be mixed to achieve a given formulation. For example, Quinacridone Gold where the pigment itself is no longer available.
Color Series
The Professional Watercolor range is split into 4 groups termed 'Series'. The series indicates the relative price of the color and is determined mainly by the cost of the pigment. Series 1 is the least expensive color and Series 4 the most expensive.
Color Strength
The strength of each color in the Professional Watercolor range has been maximised by combining the most advanced color manufacturing techniques with the most recent developments in pigment technology. Optimum color strength offers the artists greater tinting possibilities.
Color Range
Winsor & Newton choose their colors according to mass tone (color from tube), undertone (bias of color when in a thin film), color strength, relative opacity and the character of the pigment in water color, ie. granulating, staining or even wash. The resultant color spectrum ensures the largest number of colors can be mixed from the range.
Today the Professioanl Watercolor range benefits from continued advancements in pigment technology and production methods to enable Winsor & Newton to build upon their already high standards to produce even brighter, more transparent and more stable colors. Equally important, many of their formulations remain the same - proving that they cannot be bettered.
Transparency & Opacity
Winsor & Newtons Professional Watercolors exhibit unrivalled transparency due to the unique pigment dispersion in the manufacture of the color. This is particularly important because transparency is the key characteristic of watercolor. As a result of the thinness of the watercolor film, all colors have a transparent quality on paper, allowing the reflective white of the paper to shine through. However, pigments do retain their natural characteristics to some degree. For example, transparent pigments refract light in much the same manner as stained glass, making jewel-like brilliance and clean mixing. Opaque colors such as cadmiums are likely to cover significantly more than transparent colors.
The varying transparency and opacity of a pigment will affect the optical character of the individual color as well as how the color mixes with other colors. The most transparent colors will enable you to create a pure glazing effect by applying a number of washes on top of one another. The more opaque colors give flatter washes and greater covering over previous washes. Opaque colors are also useful for toning down color mixtures.
The addition of Gum Arabic will also increase transparency. By adding Gum Arabic to a color wash, you will achieve even greater transparency and luminosity from your washes.
Granulation
Some pigments show a characteristic called granulation, where the way in which the pigment particles settle in the paper creates a mottled effect. For many artists, granulation is highly desirable because it adds visual texture to their paintings. Even within granulating colors, different effects are apparent when they are brushed out onto paper. Some fine pigments rush together in huddles, more commonly called “flocculation”, whilst other heavy pigments fall into the hollows of the paper surface.
As a general statement, the traditional pigments granulate, e.g., cobalts, earths, ultramarine, etc... The modern organic pigments do not, e.g., Winsor colors. Granulating colors are marked on hand painted and printed color charts with a “G” beneath the color chip. They are also detailed in the Color Charts and the Spectrum Color Lists. Granulation Medium gives a mottled or granular appearance to colors that usually give a smooth wash, such as Winsor Blue (Red Shade). By adding Granulation Medium to colors that already granulate, such as French Ultramarine, the effect is further enhanced.
Staining
As watercolor relies upon the relative absorbency of the paper surface for stability, more powerful colors such as Prussian Blue, Alizarin Crimson, and the modern organic pigments such as Winsor colors, penetrate or stain more than others. These colors cannot be lifted completely with a damp sponge. The traditional inorganic colors and earths tend to lift more easily from the paper. Those colors that are more likely to stain a surface are marked 'St' on the Professional Watercolor Chart.
Lifting
Lifting color entails sponging water color from a surface. It can include anything from a complete wash down under running water, to getting a 'smoky' background, to the sponging out of a small area in order to lighten or rescue it. Winsor & Newton Lifting Preperation helps ensure that colors, including those that stain, can be more easily lifted from paper with a wet sponge or brush. Lifting Preparation must be applied to the paper first and allowed to dry before removal.
Permanence
Since 1832, one of Winsor & Newton's founding principles has been to offer a range of Professional Watercolors that has the greatest possible permanence. 106 out of 109 colors in their Professional Watercolor range are classed as 'permanent for artists' use', rated AA or A for archival permanence to ensure that these colors used today will appear the same for generations to come.
Opera Rose
Sometimes certain desirable or historical colors cannot be achieved or matched unless less lightfast materials are used.
In the past, this was much more common and the ethic of Winsor & Newton was that they must provide choice. After all, many artists may not need the original work of art to be permanent in itself, e.g., illustrators or designers.
Opera Rose is a case in point. Quinacridone Red and Quinacridone Magenta are vivid, lightfast violets which have proved to be hugely useful to botanical artists who specifically require their original work of art to be lightfast. Opera Rose, however, offers a brightness beyond any of these lightfast colors and is so desirable because it can represent the most vivid colors in the garden. Although a B rating, Opera Rose is in fact significantly more lightfast than any of the older pigments of its type. This is one new color where the hue will be more desirable for some artists than the ultimate longevity of the color.
The quest for permanence has turned water color from a less lightfast, delicate media into one which is equal to oil color despite the extreme dilution of the paint film. Recently available pigments have enabled Winsor & Newton to meet that quest.
It's worth remembering that Opera Rose, even with its astonishing brilliance, is equal to or superior in permanence than many of the commonly used 19th century pigments.

I've been using W&N paints for many years and remain a fan. However, I'm just a bit puzzled why all the paints (gouache and watercolour, at any rate) are now manufactured in France. I don't recall seeing any announcement of this happening. When did the transfer happen and more to the point, why - and what will happen to the prices/availability after Brexit?
Review
I thoughtfully made the purchase
Review
A good quality paint, sensibly priced.
Review
Its a perfect medium as are all the other colours I chose to order
Review
I have bought this brand of watercolour before. The colours I ordered from jacksons were exactly what I expected
Review
Exactly as I expected I have used this brand before
Review
Lovely soft pigment - great mixer
Review
A glorious slightly turquoise sky blue that also mixes lovely natural greens for foliage and countryside.
Review
A bright, light turquoise that granulates well and also has plenty of opacity when required.
Review
The loveliest of all Cobalt Violets available. Delicately pink with a hint of mauve, and enough opacity to granulate beautifully.
Review
This is a beautiful, darkest of blues indigo without the dull black tones I have found other brands can have. Lovely sheen of gum arabic when used opaquely.
Review
Labelling not very clear. Paint is excellent.
Review
Same as last one . Good quality paints.
Review
[My rating of one star is for the pan, NOT the colour. The colour (in a tube) gets 5* from me] Much easier to work with (Non-nuclear) compared to Phthalo green IMO. I have also had bad experience with the W&N pans of Viridian - Absolutely washed out and insipid I now buy the tubes and put this into the pan and let it harden (Do it in around 3 or 4 goes to avoid it cracking) - Do this and you will have a lovely single pigment green for mixing.

Review
Strong colours that lift out if needed
Review
This is good value for money but there is a weak spot in the design where the top section is soldered to the leg section. The strength here is very variable and I have twice before had to scrap an easel when the solder has given way
Review
Marvellous - and an ever present in my palette.

Trusted products l've used before but at a much better price than from a retail outlet.

Top brand
Review
Another good buy, I appreciate your discounted prices, especially on the high end of paints
Review
Other makes of Cerulean are often dull and too green. This is useful for mixing wonderful greys mixed with Burnt Sienna.
Review
French Ultramarine is a colour that I often use, and W&N's is intense and bright.
Review
I always use W&N watercolours as they are consistently good. They have a good intense colour and when diluted, as for instance when apply washes or working wet into wet, still retain their colour and luminance
Review
I always use these paints.....colour fast and reliable.
Review
An essential blue and a favourite.

Review
Lovely transparent watercolour pigment.
Review
A very versatile yellow pigment.
Review
Excellent transparent watercolour paint.
Review
This pigment is so much better than in other brands.
Review
Beautiful, a stable in my palette.
Review
The feeling of the paint directly out of the tube is somewhat dense to the touch, evidence of the high pigmentation of the watercolor. In addition, you can see that the pigment is well bonded to the binder and there is no evidence of separation.
Review
Lovely rich colour. Bought to supplement palette of half pans.
Review
Excellent, great condition. Full pan is deffo the way to go.

Yellow ochre light and gold ochre both new to me and I like. Am looking for substitutes for raw sienna which is not as useful colour as it used to be. Am not very happy with the new W @ Newton watercolour tubes as the writing is so difficult to read.

Review
Fabulous paints but what idiot designed the silver tubes (14ml) in which you need a magnifying glass to read what colour they are? Apparently W & N are aware of this problem and will produce more suitable tubes in the future.
Review
Good quality
Review
As usual paint quality of W and N is excellent. However, what have they done with the packaging??!! The tubes are now a shiny metal finish with the information and colour sample printed on. Ok I can tell that the colour is red, blue or yellow but the printing is so tiny I cannot read the colour name! Do they not realise that their core customers must all be of advanced years and will probably have eyesight to match? Bad move!
Review
W&N is clearly the very best colours around
Review
I think there is no need to pass judgment on this firm known by all as one of the best in the world
Review
A hard tone
Review
a good paint in itself, but W&N have never been as good as when they made a proper barium chromate lemon. and as for moving to France...English watercolourists need an english palette, not a continental one.
Review
Very Good

A lovely transparent, warmish, pale yellow. Makes a cool orange with Aliz. crimson
Review
A colour difficult to define and great fun to mix with others. With cerulean blue it gives a very pale lilac for example.
Review
good pale colour.
Review
Happy with the quality of this colour
Review
A qood quality paint
Review
An excellent basic green for foliage add a touch of red for a natural green
Review
Excellent deep gutsy colour
Review
A great idea with this large tube offering a cost saving for such a such a colour that is used in bulk by many artists..
Review
The new tubes are dreadful even though (I hope!!!) the contents remain the same. The colour shown on the outside is so small that if the tube is not facing directly upwards, all the tubes look the same. The writing on the tube is so small as to be unreadable. lets get back to the original tube design. Much much better.
Review
A really useful colour addition to my palette
Review
a good mixer
Review
a good product
Review
great non granulating sky colour
Review
The most luminous tourquoise I've tried
Review
W&N colours are always excellent but the new packaging, with tiny print on a silver background, makes it well nigh impossible to read the colour name. The colour bands alone are not enough to tell the difference between (for instance) two yellows. Really annoying and suggests that the packaging was designed with no thought for the people actually using the product.

W&N colours are always reliable.

Review
As a landscape artist, this is a colour I wouldn't be without, and it would be equally useful for botanical studies or still life. A mellow browny violet, this is a luminous shadow colour, which creates depth without descending into muddiness.
Review
I've tried various makes of this landscape essential, and came back to W & N as the best transparent, glowing autumn colour. However I was very disappointed with the tube colour which sets hard and dry in paintbox pan. Not so the manufactured full pan version. A quick spray of water and it releases rich colour each time.
Review
I thought this might just be 'another yellow', but bought it on a friend's recommendation as a mixing colour, to make up a mini field kit of just three primaries. I have found it a remarkable 'all rounder' yellow which produces good oranges, greens and greys. Much more versatile than Lemon or Cadmium.
Review
good, as usual

I prefer W/N artist quality to most other paints. I don't like the new silver tubes which I find hard to read..less contrast therefore not as clear.

My favourite two colours which I use to block in my paintings
Review
As above. I seem to use lots of these two colours, which explains is why I'm so delighted to get the 37 ml tube
Review
I have not used any of the materials as yet, however, I have never had any problems with Winsor and Newton products so have no reason to believe that they will be anything but excellent
Review
A changed formula since I had my last tube, so now just one pigment. Seems brighter than old.
Review
Mixes well withother colours
Review
whats to say w&n are the best for me
Review
What a fabulous colour!
Review
I like using W&N watercolour, it's reliable.
Review
Product good. New labelling unsatifactory.
Review
I ordered W&N New Gamboge in the discontinued pigment PY153 as opposed to the new formula and received 2 x 37 mil tubes today - excellent service
Review
I'm not going to repeat my comments as this applies to all of the products bought. These are professional products using the correct pigments. As such the depth and concentration is excellent, when compared to the cheaper amateur "hue" products which are not always a proper pigment
Review
good quality paint at a very good price
Review
One of my favourite colours
Review
Good colour and consistency.
Review
All of the paints are my favourite colours in big sizes which work out so much cheaper in the long run. Rose madder g is very transparent and I use it all the time as it's a pure pigment.
Review
Another pure pigment, my favourite blue.

a beautiful pure pigment, a gentle green which I use all the time
Review
A very transparent pure pigment, I love it
Review
a gorgeous blue which I use all the time
Review
I mix this colour with other colours a lot, really can't do without it.
Review
A really good clean yellow, very transparent and glowing when glazed over.
Review
The first time I have used this colour. Excellent colour for the final wash for botanical work.
Review
You can't beat Winsor and Newton watercolours, they are lovely to work with.
Review
You can't beat Winsor and Newton watercolours, they are lovely to work with and this is a gorgeous colour.
Review
have tried other brands, and found them"muddy", but love this.
Review
All the colours are top quality, no comparison to amateur paint. Your price is extremely competitive which most people are looking for in these hard times when occupied in a fairly expensive hobby.
Review
A wonderful colour for mixing to give subtle darks, and itself a vivid colour to give drama where needed.
Review
Just one of those colours one cannot do without.
Review
As always this product is Excellent
Review
Good value for money, superb colour for mixing.
Review
Lovely colour for floral work, good price.
Review
moves really well in water and mixes wonderful greens with aureolin and quinacridone gold. It creates a lovely warm black when mixed with quinacridone burnt orange - try it out you'll love it.
Review
I ordered from Jackson's art supply because I couldn't find the color I was looking for in the U.S. for some reason. Jackson's Art Supply had the color and it was a larger tube then I can normally find.
Review
Best you will buy!
Review
Have colour printed on the side
Review
This is a really luxuriant colour, great for landscapes and unmixable from other colours.
Review
Winsor Newton paints are always good value and Hookers Green is one I cannot do without,
Review
A good addition to my current selection of W&N artists quality watercolour
Review
Intense colour, rich and lovely.
Review
A clean bright vibrant red. Just completed some tests. Cant wait to use it in a painting. No longer made in the UK though as stated in catalogue but made in France
Review
A lovely blue which is always in my palette.
Review
I'll be interested to see what my usage is of this 37 ml tube. Will the tube dry up before I've used it all. I shall monitor it.
Review
Same applies for the Cobalt Blue. I've never bought a 37 ml tube of watercolour before, so I'll be interested to see how it keeps and how often I use it.
Review
I love this yellow and use it often.
Review
Lovely colour for a warm yellow
Review
Good high quality paint I , recommend it . Martin Heneke
Review
Been using these paints for some time and find them ok and reasonably priced. Painting more so moving up to larger sizes as on special offer.
Review
A perfectly fine Aureolin
Review
Fine, but less yellow than the colour swatch implies.
Review
A beautiful cool red lovely for flowers.
Review
One of my favourite colours - bright and clear every time.
Review
This shade is very close to Quinacridone Gold but less orange. I haven't used it very much at the moment as it's a new choice - but I'm sure I will.
Review
Great value for the staple Fr Ultramarine and you can't got wrong with W & N Artist watercolour.
Review
The only make of Raw Sienna I use, the colour does vary according to make.
Review
As usual excellent quality and colour. Well packaged for postal transit.
Review
Winsor and Newton are the best watercolors on the market, and the service that I get from Jacksons is very good.
Review
I love this shade, so rich and vibrant
Review
A very reliable company. It is necessary to shop around for price offers and reductions.
Review
as always winsor & newton products are excellent
Review
This is a new colour for me but mixes really well with blues. Very transparent and the quality is second to none.
Review
Lovely colour to use with quinacridone magenta and permanent rose. The quality is superb.
Review
I purchased the 14ml tubes - I'd love to be able to buy the full range of 37ml tubes too.
Review
A very unnatural colour
Review
Excellent as ever
Review
When I first used it just a clearish liquid came out not proper paint I have not tried it since, but will return if not correct
Review
The Winsor and Newton colours suit me just fine, and in the past the tubes have been excellent. This time, though the tubes from this last batch of colours ordered (see also below) seem to have been pre-squeezed and large amounts of pigment rushed out of the tube in a blob, where I only needed very small amounts.
Review
Too wishy washy - not enough pigment.
Review
Beautiful colour
Review
another really useful colour a sort of uncertain darky bluey black!
Review
incredibly useful colour - has seen a lot of action this one!
Review
Another one of my favourite colours. Although this colour can be mixed it's nice to have it straight from the tube.
Review
This is one of my favourite colours, mixes well with yellows and golds making beautiful turquoise.
Review
Lovely intense hue.
Review
My first benzimadazalone yellow, and it is excellent. Wish they did it in oils too (have to go to Blockx for that).
Review
I missed that this is a hue, meant to order Daniel Smith which is genuine. Confusingly, W&N acrylic Quinacridone Gold is genuine single pigment. It is a pretty good match, though.
Review
Makes very good natural greens when mixed with yellows.
Review
Winsor and Newton watercolour products are excellent and I prefer them to most other brands
Review
The color I was searching for my flowers…
Review
A good opaque white.
Review
excellent efficient service

Very good quality paints.
Review
Good paint but expected it in a tube.
Review
Tried and tested .Excellent product
Review
Good quality paint, as to be expected from W&N. Very satisfying to use.
Review
My hydrangeas painting (leaves) video demonstration on my YouTube channel can't become so popular without this color! Watch replay video here - https://youtu.be/DikZ8xZx4ro
Review
Just the most intense colour I've found in watercolour. Beautiful flow too.
Review
Lovely paint with good flow - although not as deep on drying as I'd expected.
Review
Use this so often, and buy it from Jackson''S often!
Review
Great flow & depth of colour. As all W&N ranges, consistently reliable.
Review
A new colour to me, but it makes a great green.
Review
I use Winsor and Newton Professional paints for my botanical paintings
Review
I know that it is excellent watercolour pigment
Review
Winsor and Newton is excellent watercolour pigment.
Review
Its W&N. Whats more to be said
Review
great color I prefer Daniel Smith but I thought I would give this a go and its a good color and close but no cigar yet
Review
Good quality colour paint as expected. Good choice of colours to choose from and also easy to choose from catalogue.
Review
What I needed at a great price.
Review
A similar story! I bought this color piece (from another vendor, a retail store in Stockholm) in the full pan. It can not be used. I was very upset, but it turns out I'm not the only one.

A similar story! I bought this color piece (from another supplier, in the retail store in Stockholm) in the full pan. It can not be used. I was very upset, but it turns out I'm not the only one. ----- Аналогичная история! Купила этот цвет поштучно (у другого поставщика) в кювете полного размера. Его невозможно использовать. Я очень расстроилась, но оказывается я не одна такая.
Review
Beautiful colour, excellent quality as usual for W&N.
Review
Good quality paint - nice soft tone.
Review
Good colour but not as strong as I remember.
Review
Just what you'd want and expect .
Review
wonderful colour: strong and smooth.
Review
I use relatively few multipigment watercolour paints, as I tend to make my own mixtures, but this one, which is a mix of three pigments, I find convenient for some of my landscape work. It is in fact wrongly described by W&N because quinacridone gold pigment, a throw up from the car industry, is no longer generally available. More correctly it is \"quinacridone gold hue\"
Review
good colour, easy to use, well priced.
Review
Gives me a lovely shade of grey.
Review
I use a lot of this colour
Review
High quality watercolour. Great value bought in larger tubes
Review
Windsor and Newton paints rock
Review
This particular colour was very dry, weak and poorly formulated compared to other manufacturers. Have been mostly happy with all of the other colours.
Review
Usual excellent standard. Colour is lovely
Review
Lovely colour and usual high quality
Review
Usual standard of colour, exactly as per catalogue
Review
Colour good representation in your catalogue
Review
Reliable make that has proved itself again

i know it's not your fault but something wrong with thailand post , it distort and break some tube i recomment you next time when you shipping to thailand please protect more a little bit
Review
Insipid, look nothing like it does in the colour sample on screen. I bought a 24 colour set (from a different supplier) and the viridian was so weak it was unusable so I bought a half pan from here and it's just the same. All the other colours are fine but this one is so awful I'm using the one from my Cotman set..

Review
Bright and intense color, good for using on its own or mixing with dark browns to create neutrals.
Review
A staple color for me.W &N are my favorites; good quality at reasonable price.
Review
This is a lovely transparent yellow. When used with French Ultramarine the results are fantastic.
Review
I was happy with the product. I was not able to find it any ware else. thank you

I have used Winsor and Newton watercolours for many years as a professional painter, however, the colours have changed substantially over the last few years and they are poor now compared with then.
Review
Very nice transparent colour!
Review
Just the dark green I needed for mixing my own blacks and for shaded areas of certain kinds of foliage

Review
First time I have used Jackson's, excellent service and product.
Review
Good quality, good colour, good solubility and saturation.
Review
A truly gorgeous colour! Dries a little bit duller if applied in thin washes but if you go for more opaque applications, it retains all it's vibrancy. Great oranges when mixed with yellows too.

Happy with product, thanks.
Review
Beautiful paint, in a very convenient size, too!
Review
I agree with the another reviewer. The paints are superb but whoever designed these dreadful silver tubes needs sacking at least. The colours on the tubes are useless as many look the same as others. The name of the paints are of such small lettering that I find I need a magnifying glass to read them if in unsuitable light. This review applaies to all the silver tubed paints 5ml.
Review
Just a note to say that Windsor & Newton are aware of the problem with the 14ml silver tubes and they will be changed in the near future. Good on them for recognising the problem.
Review
Can hardly see what colour it is when you pick up the tube....you dont want to be first searching for a magnyfying glass to see what colour youv'e picked up
Review
This is a great colour by Winsor and Newton, this colour has a deep depth and I love it. The whole Winsor and Newton range is great for new artist and professionals like myself, try it, it maybe more expensive but if you want those professional looking paintings you will not be sorry.
Review
Weapons grade red orange. Too bright for me, prefer cadmium orange.
Review
I find most yellows of whatever hue to be too bright. W&N I think are the only major brand to use this pigment (PY216) and it produces a lovely subdued yellow similar to Transparent Yellow but without the gummy texture of that paint. Great for flesh and sappy greens that won't look radioactive.
Review
Not a real Quninacridone Gold (PO49) but a convenience mixture containing Transparent Yellow (PY150). Unfortunately this is no substitute for the real thing having Transparent Yellow's same sticky texture and leaving all your flesh tones looking like the model is suffering from jaundice. Great for mixing up greens, but if that is all it's to be used for why not get a convenience green (Hookers/Sap/Olive)?
Review
Lovely orange earth colour. Great for flesh and landscape (or flesh in a landscape?).
Review
Never fulfilled it's promise. Should be a nice 'primary cyan' type blue, but is just dingy and drab. Red shade handles better but is too close in hue to the violet blues to make it worthwhile. Be daring and get the startling Manganese Blue and mix it with your other blues to 'pull' them over to the green side of the colour wheel.
Review
Weapons grade red orange, one of the brightest pigments around. Too much for me, I prefer cadmium orange.
Review
An amazing pigment (PY129). A great base for mixing all kinds of interesting greens with earths, reds, blues and other greens! Also in thin washes produces a dark yellow (if such a thing exists) where the green is hardly noticable.
Review
A convenience hue made from two pigments. Quite weedy, doesn't give intense tints. Try replacing with a true single pigment Quinacridone Gold (PO49) which gives almost the exact same hue, but is capable of creating much stronger tints - Daniel Smith do one, but it only comes in tubes.
Review
For years, and probably like most other watercolourists, I've had both French Ultramarine and Cobalt Blue in my palette and never known why - both granulating violet blues right next to each other on the colour wheel. Have got rid of both of them and replaced with this. It doesn't granulate though, but I prefer my paints that way.
Review
Awful, practically insoluble, mine went straight in the bin. Maybe the tubes are better, but avoid the pans at all cost!
Review
Wonderful colour and a great addition to any palette, received a day after ordering and a great price too.
Review
Rich in colour and its very versatile with watercolour washes and techniques. Great

Quick service. Thankyou
Review
But you didn't supply the Winsor & Newton's French Ultramarine. For some reason you substituted Daler Rowney's product without asking and whilst it was slightly higher value for the same price, it seemed very high handed of you.
Review
Fantastic!
Review
This brand is always considered as the one of the best by watercolor artists. i have nothing else to say.
Review
The product itself is fine- that's why I buy it- but the new packaging of W &N paint is a disaster. Whatever possessed a (presumably) visually aware company to label watercolour, gouache etc in identical tubes, with such poor, small labelling?
Review
accessible and responsive
Review
Very good quality paint.
Review
Winsor and Newton's excellent quality.
Review
Very efficient and quick dispatch response to orders.

Review
product range, pricing and delivery. Excellent
Review
Quick delivery to Australia, great range of products, good price.
Review
Easy to order and quick delivery.
Review
Good paint marred by dreadful reproduction of colour on paint tubes. The old tubes were much more user friendly because you could easily see which was which.
Review
Really excellent customer service
Review
I will be shopping with you again-in fact place another order the day after I received your paints. You have excellent communication skills and make the buyer feel their needs are being met. I am now anxiously awaiting my palettes.
Review
All the products from W&N are insisted on my the supervisor of the 'over 60s Watercolour Group' I attend. And this is because he assures us that they long lasting and consistent.
Review
Super quality as always
Review
Quick, problem free transaction.
Review
I don't know enough (in fact anything) about paint technology but this paint won't mix properly with the water. It lies gritty on the bottom of the water jar and when I scrape it up and apply it it's uneven and gritty. Not suitable for my purpose which is painting 3d paper flowers.
Review
First time I've used it. Lovely rich colour.
Review
I'm in Australia and I received my order exactly when Jackson's said it would arrive here. Confirmation of the progress of the goods was appreciated. This is not my first order through Jackson's and it won't be my last. Very pleased.

The parcel arrived after 20 days..... and some tubes were almost damaged as the tubes were squeezed. Instead of putting 1 tube per compartment like Winsor and Newton does you have 2 tubes per compartment .... plus the boxes are very light card. Please change the way you do your parcel especially when travelling to a remote country like New Zealand. Thanks
Review
I have always found Jacksons to provide excellent customer service and to be responsive to customer queries and order status information. I like the fact that I can see product price and total cost in AUD and that is the amount that appears on my bank statement. Orders into Australia are quite quick by some international standards. Many thanks to the team at Jacksons. Jen Wallace

Review
Overall the service was excellent and I will be using Jackson's Art supplies in the future. The website wasn't as user friendly as I would like. I needed 15 specific watercolor paints and the search field didn't work so I had to scroll through the huge quantity that Jackson's has to find each paint color. Then the checkout procedure seemed to stall for 20 minutes and suddenly my basket was empty without me knowing if the transaction had gone through! It took another couple of hours to receive an email saying the transaction had actually gone through. Other than that, I'm completely happy with the level of service I received.
