Michael Harding : Oil Paint
From $12.20
Info
Michael Harding paints are made by hand, using techniques which date back to the days of the Old Masters. There is a very simple reason for this painstaking process. Harding's past as an artist and painter compelled him to want to create colors that were true and vibrant, and paint which was beautiful and durable.
The greater the pigment content of a paint the greater the resistance it has to fading. Nearly all manufacturers use various fillers to extend the volume of the oil paint. It may increase profits but it compromises on quality. Harding totally refuses to do this: 'Why make something exceptional and then dilute it''
Harding will not claim that his paints will turn you into a great painter, but he does promise they will have a profound effect on your work. Your colors will be stronger and richer, and you will find the texture of the paint incomparable. You will love working with them.

Review
Great quality oil paint, a joy to use!
Review
Always good quality paints. My favourite brand
Review
I was disapointed with this paint, mainly because I found it to be gritty, possibly not finely ground. This was particularly noticeable when mixing with a palette knife. Certainly not the usuall quality of Michael Harding's paints.
Review
Lovely shade, considering I only had a written explanation to go on. Very reasonable price too.
Review
Good product - easy to find.

So far so good, nice pigment. Bought while on offer and wasn't disappointed.

The colours are so vivid and the consistency is a dream, its a pleasure to spread them on your canvas, they dont change once they are dried. They fast become the only oil paint I use

Love Michael Harding oil paint and Jackson has good prices
Review
Not really a fair contest but I compared this with my 30 year old student days red oxide, likely Winton but the label went some time ago, and a recently purchased Daler venetian red. The harding is darker undiluted and far more intense. But my 30 year old Winton was still quite bright, comparatively, when applied opaquely and thick.
Review
Great-excellent paints and not all art shops stock them. Great service
Review
Top quality good strong white.
Review
Strong tinting power, as described
Review
Top quality good earth brown
Review
Great earthy red for trees and foliage.
Review
I haven't painted for close to 30 years and still had some paint left in tins and a few tubes from my student days that somehow survived this length of time. I've recently purchased some Winton and Daler Rowney until I discovered Artist grade Windsor and Newton, and then Harding. What I noticed quite quickly with the Harding is how strong and lively the colours are when mixed and diluted. I created some stunning, brilliant turquoise shades using this colour as a starting point.
Review
a low oil titanium, very welcome(I don't like slippery greasy whites) but titanium cannot be a lead replacement. Don't get me started on how the political bureaucrats have messed up painting
Review
A proper tinting colour without the heaviness of a true black
Review
A re-order of one of my favourite MH colours - a super colour for warming up a wide range of colours.
Review
great product - this is a re-order
Review
There's nothing quite like it.
Review
Great to have such a useful blue, another re-order. Works for me and although it's fairly bright it's easily knocked back with French Ultra.
Review
Delicious:)
Review
Great quality paint, beautiful color.
Review
Started buying Michael Harding oil paints recently. Along with Old Holland oil paints they have a thick consistency and strong colours. They definitely work out more economical since far less paint is needed and a little white produces beautiful pastels.
Review
Have used this product many times in the past, consistent quality
Review
Trusted products of the highest quality - never disappoint
Review
A very expensive colour as with most cadmiums but so little is needed due to the strong colour and thick consistency. I decided to use a much cheaper cadmium yellow I already had and found it extremely difficult to obtain the strength of yellow I required. My next Jackson purchase will be a Michael Harding cadmium yellow when finances allow! For me cheap paint is now a false economy
Review
Strong colour and a thick consistency means Michael Harding paints are more economical despite the higher price. Makes oil painting a much easier and more pleasurable experience. Love the subtle oranges and greens, yellow ochre makes.
Review
Love these paints gorgeous colours and so smooth!!
Review
Gorgeous paint just love easy to work with.....

Review
Great colour, has a bit more white than I was expecting.

This warm white is exciting to use. Paint hardened a little in the tube which is why it lost a star.

Review
I'm a big fan of Michael Harding oil paints. Lovely creamy texture, lovely feel, and beautiful luminescence. Raw Sienna is a must have oil paint, and this is as good as you can get. Series 1 to boot.
Review
I'm a big fan of Michael Harding oil paints. Lovely creamy texture, lovely feel, and beautiful luminescence.
Review
Excellent paint which is a good substitute for lead-based Flake White.
Review
It is not a natural pigment, it is a non-permanent synthetic pigment, money lost.
Review
choosed Michael Harding as my first oil paint, and i think i was not mistaken to do so, after testing it for month, i can say it's truly premium(professional) grade paint, pigment's are rich, 40ml tubes full of paint, no linseed leaking so far, and prices seems fair not to mention there really good intro set.
Review
As above though this pigment doesn't suit me so well
Review
Barium yellow! nickel titanate is a fat opaque nasty substitute for this pigment! please someone(Jacksons?)use this wonderful pigment for watercolour as W&N did until 1992.
Review
Michael Harding oils are always wonderful. The oil seems less fat than other makes.
Review
Good replacement for a much more expensive paint!
Review
Lovely colour! Creamy texture, love it!
Review
Who would have thought, the humble Terre Verte .... Absolutely amazing and one of my favorite tubes now (and I have quite a few ;-) Colour and especially consistency are just stunning! It´s like painting with velvet, if that makes any sense ... highly recommended!
Review
Utterly beautiful, never will use Ultramarine again ... this colour and its consistency is just stunning!
Review
A good basic red oxide at a very affordable price
Review
I love the Michael Harding range always perfect texture
Review
I am very happy with this paint good consistency and colour
Review
There is no other alternative to this paint and its sibling (lead tin yellow lemon) if you wish to paint in the style of Johannes Vermeer, Also, the price in this particular store is absolutely fair.
Review
Very high pigment content and very pleasant texture to work with. My only comment, is that tube could be better.
Review
I try to buy the best quality paint - then I feel that if my painting doesn't work out well I cant then blame the paint - it helps me feel good
Review
beautiful. a very very pale yellow-white. warm and creamy. a favourite of mine.

Review
I've used MH oils for years, always a top quality paint and good value for money on the Jackson's website.
Review
beautiful soft texture and colour
Review
not as special as I expected from the cost.
Review
good, honest basic paint as regards colour and texture.
Review
This is a usefully distinctive semi-transparent black. The underlying yellow tinge comes forward in mixed glazes – with surprising-in-a-good-way results. Excellent!
Review
Love this bought the light version too but in future will buy just this one but in a big tube and mix it white. Haven't used this yet in a landscape but thinking it will be great so many yellows I find harsh, this one isn't. Still experimenting with it so happy I bought it.
Review
Love love love this such a gentle soft yellow and so light I have used it as a mixer instead of white.
Review
Michael Harding paints are among the very best.
Review
A superb delicate colour from the best maker in the trade. Never thought I would use three or four different whites.
Review
Mixed with Ultramarine Blue, this colour produces some lovely muted green earths - ideal for the English landscape. Another excellent oil colour from Michael Harding.
Review
Amazing. I recommend this to all portrait artists.
Review
Excellent color, hard to find and I got it thanks to Jackson's art store.
Review
excellent properties, vibrant colour
Review
Top quality vibrancy with super-smooth consistency. Will gradually switch over to Michael Harding as I use up my cheap ones.
Review

Review

Review
excellent as expected
Review
Michael harding never lets you down
Review
Excellent quality. A warmer colour than other Yellow Ochres which are too mustardy in oils. The oil seems to affect the colour in a way watercolour mediums don't.
Review
Very good price
Review
Great paint as usual, buttery and intense.
Review
Wonderful paint and a wonderful colour. Very useful for landscapes.
Review
Just the right colour.
Review
Brilliant paint I use it all the time.
Review
love it, especially for altering tones.
Review
a favourite colour during early stages of a painting
Review
A red leaning towards the orange with a very high pigment load. Explosive!
Review
Semi-opaque ochre, makes nice flesh tints. Lovely paint.
Review
Michael Harding I love your paints!
Review
This cadmium is not the "fire extinguisher red" I was expecting but leans just slightly toward bordeaux red. A nice color in its own right with intense pigment load. Top quality!
Review
as described
Review
I was looking for a colour that would enable me to produce dark purplish greys for skies. I've been very pleased with other Michael Harding oil colours I have purchased from Jacksons and this Indian Red seemed to fit the bill for what I needed. My experiments with this colour so far are looking very promising.
Review
A must have pigment.
Review
Quality pigment and product. Michael Harding oil colours are among the best money can buy. Czes Pachela.
Review
Splendid depth of colour and once again, Michael Harding oil colours are an essential choice for any serious artists out there. Czes Pachela.
Review
Another essential pigment with the quality second to none. Czes Pachela.
Review
Good to buy British made.

Review
I've used this all my life, it's excellent.
Review
The best oil paints
Review
For me this has been an excellent find and the two artists here have been using it exclusively for several years now. Drying for white can be slow - this white still gives plenty time for lovely buttery brush sweeps but then dries in about half the time. And of course it has the superior quality as with all MH oils. Would recomment highly.
Review
new colour very useful for me
Review
A really lovely Burnt Sienna. Highly recommended.
Review
the densest white I have used.
Review
lives up to other colours in range
Review
All paint in this series is quality, and at a great value through Jackson's in comparison to other suppliers.
Review
Very intense pure blue
Review
I use Micheal Harding paints as they are such good quality pigments. They are not cheap, but a little goes a long way and they are such good colours. Other paints I have used are like painting with grease compared to these.
Review
Not as dark as i thought it would but still a nice colour
Review
Usual excellent MH quality
Review
thick intense pigment- always great to work with
Review
Very high quality oil colour. Michael Harding uses the finest Italian Sienna pigment (Pigment Brown 7) which to me is denser than in some other brands and being free of fillers and extenders etc gives good tinting power. I am expecting this colour to be both good value for money and very archival due to its high pigment content.
Review
Certainly looks the same high quality oil colour as I've found with other Michael Harding oils. Like other colours I have tried in this range, the colour looks very dense and I anticipate it will give good tinting power.
Review
I have bought these for my daughter and she seems very pleased.
Review
An excellent oil paint maker. I use his colours always unless he does not make the colour which I need.
Review
Excellent paints. I have recently tried out a few of Michael Harding's oil paints. I particularly liked his version of Raw Sienna as it is much more of an earthy brown than other manufacturers' versions of this colour that I have previously used. I noticed the pigment in the Michael Harding Raw Sienna is PB7 rather than the pigments PY42 and PY43 found in some other brands.
Review
One of the best quality oil paints on the market
Review
Fantastic quality
Review
It needs to be brighter for me, like N.1 I needed to try it but I prefer N 1
Review
Accept no substitute. Faultless paint
Review
Great product

Review
Excellent pigments. One of my favourite brands.
Review
Different league, true artists colours. Had to try immediately, and now I shall replace all the others!
Review
Very good.
Review
It's very good I've used it before
Review
Love Michael Harding oils for vibrancy of colour and drying time.
Review
Fabulous white.
Review
Love it.
Review
funnily enough I use the Vasari mixed with this colour more most.
Review
One of the best of this staple.
Review
As above - I would not spend my limited cash on Vasari or Michael Harding if I didn't find the difference significant. It is almost impossible to 'make mud', the pigments hold their integrity so brilliantly. - hope this all is useful?
Review
simply beautiful colour!
Review
On time and everything was delivered as ordered.
Review
Great, how it was expected
Review
Considering the price (not discounted) I can't tell any difference between this product and W&N whose products I consider excellent.
Review
Brighter than Blox and better Value though a little thin in consistancy
Review
Lovely colour

Review
Lovely colour
Review
Products always good.
Review
Love these paints. They're the best quality and beautiful to use which is why I went to the trouble of sourcing them online when I moved to NZ from Melbourne and was unable to obtain them in this smaller, ruined city (Christchurch is recovering from the Feb 2011 earthquakes)
Review
Actually ordered wrong colour! Michael Harding paints generally seem very oily.
Review
haven't had much time to try yet, but seems excellent, as I would expect.
Review
super paint, best value for money of all paint / quality
Review
This one tube got a bit knocked about (perhaps in delivery) and had a small amount of oil leaking from the fold at the base of the tube... all okay though.
Review
Best Ultramarine I've tried yet...
Review
fantastic colour as usual
Review
Excellent product at a good price - thanks
Review
colour not quite as expected. quality good
Review
I ordered the Titanium white 2 because it is mixed with linseed oil instead of safflower oil which is slower drying. I have found this to be very useful for the earlier stages of painting when you need faster drying times.
Review
Michael Harding's oil colours are exactly what their names say they are and of the highest quality.
Review
Good quality and very fine colour
Review
Good quality and very brilliant and transparent colour
Review
Wow! It really is bright and a very powerful pigment. The paint goes a very long way and is a lovely consistency that brushes out really well. I will be buying some more of these paints. The dried paint film is lovely and it mixes really well.
Review
Everything it is reputed to be. A marvellous colour - to be used for those very special occasions where only this colour will do.
Review
First time use of theses paints. Live up to catalogue description and well pleased with amount for reasonable cost of these top grade paints.
Review
Fabulous paint - so glad I found it! This paint has become my secret weapon.
Review
Easy to use - great pigment!
Review
Can't better Michael Harding paint.
Review
Harding's paints are excellent. I have two big tubes of Yellow Lake, I also have PY3 and PY74 pigments in oil paints of different brands. It is a great example of above pigment, particularly beautiful shade. Recently Yellow Lake changed pigment to PY74. It is more lightfast pigment than PY3, although jury's out on it. After testing it (PY74) I found the colour to be virtually identical with PY3, with slightly less tinting strength. It is still more intense than Old Holland's PY74 (Scheveningen Yellow Light). Buy with confidence!
Review
delivered very quickly, used this paint in past, it is excellent.
Review
The quality did not disappoint.
Review
I discovered Michael Harding's oil paints about a year ago and thought they were the perfect paint; my pallete now consists solely of this brand! This colour is brilliant for mixing flesh tones, and has a lovely warmth to it. Sometimes I mix it with Titanium White to speed up the drying time.
Review
Love these oil colours find it difficult to use any other brand now
Review
Quite liquid in consistency, high tinting strength, makes for some beautifully resonant notes. Fast dryer.
Review
The consistency is a real pleasure to work with and the pigments are so strong that mixing becomes an absolute delight, I cannot recommend this range highly enough.
Review
This and all the rest were receiced in excellent condition and in good time
Review
Original lemon yellow is another rarity by Michael Harding and a very useful colour in oil painting.
Review
Splendid oil colour
Review
Fantastic paint.
Review
It is difficult to conceive any paints which are better than those made by Michael Harding.
Review
all Michael Harding paints are good with really intense pigment which goes a long long way - hard to choose a different brand after these
Review

Review
This Michael Harding Permanent orange is magnificent, I have used this orange several times in my paintings, it has a deep intensity next to subdued blues.
Review
Perfect. Will definitely buy it again
Review
Beautiful colour and high quality to boot.
Review
A quality paint that augments my pallette nicely. It mixes nicely into skin tones and handles well.
Review
Michael Harding always good as is this oil paint
Review
Michael Harding offers the best, brightest and most beautiful oil paint colours!
Review
A glorious pigment. Shining colour and a great voluptuousness of 'feel' to apply. These oils make painting a truly sensual experience.
Review
Very pure colour - I love these pigments!
Review
Two fabulous Michael Harding oils. Great purity of colour. These are, for me, the gold standard of oil paints.
Review
colour I regularly use for glazing
Review
A lovely colour that leaves the tinted competitors standing. Great working properties, excellent drying time and a greater range of mixing opportunities than I have experienced previously.
Review
Lovely colour - subtle, yet very strong. My first experiments with it have been very promising and I feel confident of a whole new range of exploration opening up. Treat it with respect and it responds gratefully!
Review
As with all Michael Harding paints, this is simply the best available, and totally flawless.
Review
Great paint! Thank you very much!
Review
Very good, but safflower oil is a bit chalky. It gives a better and lasting white than the linseed oil version, but it doesn't handle as nicely. Blockx's poppy seed oil white is the best of both worlds, but more expensive.
Review
Intense and slightly rosy.
Review
brilliant lovely colours to good to be true
Review
A very high quality professional oil paint. This is a purple hue red, rather than a yellow which I prefer.
Review
First time I have used MH paints - stunning quality - I'm converted.

Possibly the best white I've ever used.
Review
I always use Michael Harding paints as they're the best.
Review
Complete convert to Mr Harding's range - best quality natural colours on the market and I get through tons of Raw Umber so glad it's such a reasonable price!
Review
A lovely colour and one which I use regularly.
Review
Once again, M H has it spot on.
Review
Great for painting (pictures of ) ladybirds!
Review
A classic
Review
This is a really useful colour and gives a transparent warmth to mixtures. I don't know of an equivalent made by anyone else. It is a tiny bit like a subtle alternative to ochre, it doesn't lighten or muddy the colour it mixes with.
Review
A good clean ultramarine.
Review
A good, fairly powerful mixing white. It is priced quite well in this size which I find ideal for plain air. Not too heavy to carry but enough paint so you won't run out.
Review
Excellent

Review
This is a lovely burnt sienna. I intend to gradually replace all my oil pigments with Michael Harding Oils. The consistency of this paint is delightful and a joy to use.
Review
Gorgeous paint, amazing consistency and flow. This one has a notable blue shade, quite useful to figurative painting and portraits. A great alternative if you're seeking a alternative for black colour. Definitely a must-have!
Review
I I bought this colour from Jacksons. Its avery special, beutifull colour. Its expensive But in my opinion it is worth every euro i spend for this.KostasSorry for my poor english.
Review
The best transparent Red Iron Oxide! I wish I had bought this colour a long time ago. Its masstone appears as a Venetian or English Red, but when glazed it looks like a browner version of Crimson Lake with all its luminous qualities (and far more lightfast). It's also a great mixing colour.
Review
I stumbled across this new colour after long searching for a yellow-brown for depicting light fur in wildlife. It is one of the Mars colours (pigment PY42), which tend to appear brighter, mix better and are easier to source than the hues obtained from the traditional, non-synthetic pigments such as PBr7; perhaps, that's why Michael Harding has introduced more PY42 colours into his range. This hue is, therefore, a good alternative to the Raw Sienna of the same range, if you're looking for a cleaner, more opaque iron oxide with far less green undertones. Suffice to say, it is a versatile brown with a lot of potential for figurative artists, especially landscape painters.
Review
A great, versatile blue due to its depth and transparency; creates brilliant dark shades from Burnt umber to Black with the addition of Burnt Sienna. Michael Harding's version is beautiful, full of pigment (particularly as there are no fillers in his range of paints), and closely matches that of Winsor and Newton. The colour itself leans more towards a cool Ultramarine Blue - compared to French Ultramarine which has more purple undertones - but is a step or two away from Winsor and Newton's Ultramarine Blue Green Shade. Overall, its a essential blue of any palette and Michael Harding's paint is extremely good value.
Review
So far, all of my reviews of Michael Harding's oil colours have been very good; but I'm really not sure what to make of this one. It may just be that this Raw Sienna is wrong for my palette, as it contains far too much green for my liking. As soon as I add it to another colour, say a semi-transparent yellow, the mixture will acquire a greenish aspect. This can be useful for producing muted landscape greens, but not for mimicking ochre or creating earthy browns. I might try the Winsor and Newton colour as an alternative, or Michael Harding's Transparent Oxide Yellow. However, the paint itself, like all Michael Harding colours, is beautifully transparent and full of pigment.
Review
After sampling a few of Michael Harding's greens, namely Terre Verte and Cobalt Green, I decided to order the Sap Green to add a more opaque and yellowish green to my palette. In its raw state, it appears deep and rich with some yellow and grey undertones (much like the grey in Green Umber); however, as soon as you add an opaque white, like that of Titanium, it becomes a bluish green. I would, therefore, describe this colour as more of a Hooker's Green than a Sap Green. The problem can be remedied with a little Indian Yellow, or another deep, transparent yellow. Despite this issue, it's a very good generic green which can easily replace a more expensive oil colour like Viridian as a mixing green and can be modified to provide a range of greens, perfect for landscapes.
Review
Another Michael Harding oil colour with beautiful properties. As the steadfast mixing green of my palette, this colour yields stunning landscape greens when modified by the earth pigments and blues - from muted blue-green to Oxide of Chromium. When added to Titanium White (with a little Zinc White to retain its coolness) and a warm blue, such as Ultramarine, this green is great for modelling clouds in cool, greyish skies. With the same warm blue and a reddish earth, Cobalt Green Deep offers a range of versatile shades that are ideal for rendering the shadows in landscapes. I will now explore its uses in portrait painting, as a complementary of flesh hues; this green might prove to be a good replacement, albeit a cooler and more opaque one, for the usual Terre Verte as it has a higher tint power. I was initially tempted by the cheaper Phthalo Green Lake of the same range, but I'm pleased that I chose to pay the extra for this subtler and more traditional pigment.
Review
A wonderful umber; redder than Burnt Umber, so better for imitating the palette of the Dutch masters. Its also great for the bays found in equine and wildlife painting and for rich, warm shades. I've collected several Michael Harding oil colours now and I haven't been disappointed with a single one; I'm totally converted from the Winsor and Newton Artists' range which I've found, on the whole, to be more synthetic-looking with a harder drying film.
Review
Used many times; never a problem.

Your inventory control needs a bit of adjusting. Common colours like Yellow Ochre and burnt umber were out of stock. This was also true in a recent offer you made about Winsor Newton watercolour sticks. Fundamental colours like cadmium hues were out of stock. What good is the offer?
