From $3.80
- Hair Type: Hog White
- Handle Length: Long
Info
Hog brushes are one of the most widely-used brushes for oil painting. While lower cost bristle brushes are boiled to straighten hairs and then bleached to uniform the color, Shiro brushes do not undergo boiling and have only minimal bleaching in order to prolong the lifespan of the brush and maintain the strength of the hair. This also means that they retain natural curve and cuticle, which is essential for achieving the very best shape and spring.
As with all natural materials, care must be taken to ensure brush life is optimised, so please remember to always wash brushes in lukewarm water and to store with the brush head away from other surfaces in an airy and shaded environment.

Great for producing a blended surface with life - texture and variations can still be left, the paint is not blended to death

Very good brush. Not as thick as the size 12 W&N brush I ordered, but very good brush for oils for the price. Firm and dependable in use. Not quite as soft as W&N artist or other (the green) oil brushes they do. But a great alternative for lower price. Nice bristles.

These Shiro brushes are excellent quality. On other brands of brushes the bristles are often boiled or steamed and then gummed into shape before you buy them. Not so with Shiro brushes! When these brushes arrive they have a natural inward taper and are wonderfully springy to use. I will certainly be buying more!

I was looking for a small brush to use in connection with finer work and this has proved to be good.

Was directed to this brush by a nice lady in the Putney shop who says she uses them. Have heard other people complain about their hog brushes and since I'm a beginner thought it best to take advice.Very pleased she led me to these. Still only doing exercises with colours but even doing that, this brush delivers the paint well to canvas and has a pleasing 'painterly' effect and is neither too soft nor too hard. Never used a bristle brush before but you can always tell when you are using a good quality tool. Woks with oils and acrylics.
