Jackson's : Pure Squirrel : Mops : Series 828

The brush seems to be of good quality and is very pleasant to use holding more paint than synthetic brushes. Comes to a good point at the end and perhaps two or three of these brushes of varying size would be an asset to any artists who love watercolour.

Great brush for backwashes

Hold a lot of watercolour paint so usable for small washes but also forms a fine point which is quite soft so usable for detailed, expressive strokes. Now one of my favourite brushes.

Now have four different sizes of squirrel mop brushes. Very good quality and a pleasure to use.

Easy to use but the first time I’ve ever used one.

The brush was a replacement for an old one that has lasted me years, but I left it in a holiday flat.

Brush is good for its price, but it loses its hair

This brush holds so much paint and is a joy to use. I've had to find out how to use it for the best and am still practising, but so far it's amazing. It's not like any brush I've tried before, so early days.

I love this really versatile brush.

My first genuine squirrel mop brush. Seems to keep fine point even better than sable brushes - lovely response and spring action. 100 times better than synthetic mop from other top brand.

Simply the best and most economical watercolour brushes available. Big belly carries plenty of watercolour while the needle point gives precision where needed.

A lovely brush just as I expected.

The brush has changed since the last Jackson's no.6 mop I owned, which was the same as the one shown on the sites photo. The head is not as full as my last one, with very little belly when wet and doesn't quite handle as well as a result. The handle is different now also, no longer having the curved taper to the shaft that felt nice in the hand, it is now just a straight taper. It is still a nice brush and to be honest I would be quite happy with it had I not had the old one to compare it against. It just does not feel the same quality as my old one.

Good just what was needed great brush

It's a joy to use this brush. I also purchased size 10 and 15.

Good but is much smaller when wet- have three and still not picked the right size !

The brush is much smaller in dimensions to Jackson's competitor’s equivalent size brush.

So far so good. Nice thirsty brush with good point. Well made and reasonable value. Just need to see how long I can make it last now.

Turning out to be my favourite brush

I'm very happy with this brush, it's been in constant use since I received it, very versatile, in fact I can start and finish my painting with just this brush, it's pointy enough to make fine lines and holds so much water to do big washes with. It gets me painting fast! This is the most useful of all brushes ever invented in my opinion. And very well priced compared to other brands and it does exactly the same.

I was excited about these brushes but I was disappointed when the bristle hair keep coming off when I paint and ruined some of my work because I have to pick it out from the paper.

I fell in love with squirrel brushes because of the holding capacity. I really love how this brush gives and gives. It allows watercolour to do what it's supposed to do and makes it easier and faster to create skies and oceans. Then it also comes to such a sharp point that detailing with it is like using hefty rigger. I let a few pupils try it out and they were screaming that I cheat with my watercolours using this brush.

First class product used by the water colour professionals. The unique squirrel hair holds more water and facilitates a marvelous point for detailed word no matter how big the brush is. They are expensive but well worth it. You perhaps shouldn't blame bad work on the tools but you need the right tools to do good work.

Received on size 6, one size 8. Just loved them from the first moment. Now I use these routinely with every watercolour before moving to sable for detail. They hold a good amount of water and pigment but always work to a fine point. Excellent value for money!

Quality product. This range of mop brushes are outstanding. Capacity of liquid holding, broad to fine control and evenness of flat wash is staggering. Like painting with a feather touch, no friction drag to speak of, paint just floats on. Unbelievable price also...Jackson's score again.

Excellent for my taste, holds a lot of water, really good fine point

I have been tempted by these mops for ages now, and finally bit the bullet a few months ago. Now, having used it a few time - well, a lot, really - I can comment, and to be honest, it's lovely. The first few times there were some hairs that came loose, but you expect that. However, after the first three uses, that stopped. The hairs are fine, springy, and absorb a ludicrous amount of water. I use this brush almost exclusively for skies and larger washes, where it excels. The pigment is spread evenly when you want, but the brush comes together perfectly when you want a finer line. For sketches, this is ideal because almost all the painting can be completed with only the one brush. I love it - in fact, as soon as I can, I'll get the size 6 and size 10 pack as well. You can't have too many brushes, after all, can you?

Like a lot of watercolour painters, I've been involved in the usual struggle to paint looser. I've found that with my new Jackson's Series 828 No. 11 Squirrel mop, I'm beginning to see the effects I have been striving for. It's a thirsty brush which holds lots of pigment, points exceptionally well and with a little patience and practice I feel it's fast becoming the best brush I've used and taking me to where I want to go. Love these brushes. I've got two of these - one on my desk and one cut down for carrying in my watercolour box. Just as good as the Isabey equivalent, which I also have.

After a lot of cogitation I plumped for the Jacksons Pure Squirrel Mop Brush : Series 828 : size 11I've had a few sessions with it and find it ideal for my way of painting. It's well made, looks good, has a fine point and holds lots of water. It's not too expensive and hopefully will serve me well.I wish Jacksons would move the Back button just below. I lost a great glowing review when I clicked that instead of the stars.

I ordered one of these because I wanted to try a squirrel mop brush but did not want to spend big money on it. I assumed the quality would be inferior but I have been pleasantly surprised by how good the quality of this brush is. It holds plenty of water and can be used to create large washes, yet it also comes to a fine point for details. I have only used it in a few small sketches, but so far I have not seen any hair shed from it, either. I got a size 8 and will eventually buy a bigger one as well.

Well made little mop, holds plenty of water, keeps a point. Just the thing for loosening up a painting to keep it fresh.
