Jackson's : Black Hog Brushes : Series 333 / 334 / 335
From $4.40
- Hair Type: Hog Black
- Handle Length: Long
Info
These black bristle hog brushes are truly beautiful. Similar in look to the black sable but with slightly stiffer hair and considerably less expensive.
These natural hair brushes have the softness, touch, spring and control of a top quality brush. Interlocked hair, silver-colored ferrule and matte black handle.
'Jackson's Black Hogs are different - not rudimentary but sophisticated in so many ways - a class act. When you pick up a brush the first thing you notice is the balance. It sits perfectly in the hand and the fulcrum, or balance point, is a third of the way up the handle...Black Hogs work well with oil and acrylic paint. Because of their springiness and ability to leave marks but are slightly malleable, they suit both media for slightly different reasons. I am a great believer in trying out a brush type to see if it suits my process and I have used Jackson's Black Hogs across oil and acrylic work with great success.' - Max Hale, Artist, Painter & Tutor, Painters Online.

Always find these brushes lovely to work with. Great for finishing touches. Bristles curve well, have just the right amount of spring and carry the paint beautifully.

Same comment as for Nos. 2 & 4 black hog filberts
Review
Same comment as for No 2 black hog filbert 'I have been buying and using Jackson’s black hog brushes for a while now. I find the filberts perfect with oil on canvas and other surfaces, they are just that bit softer, with none of that scratching with ordinary hog hair, and they work & last better than any synthetic.'

Review
excellent, I expected this brush to be too soft but I love it, enough spring and resistance for both this and thin paint.

The bristles are both soft and springy which makes them fairly useful for glazes and impasto.
Review
The bristles are quite soft with a relaxed spring which makes them fairly versatile.
Review
The bristles are quite soft and are just right for delicate passages and details.
Review
Very nice brush for smaller details. The bristles are quite soft which is nice for those more delicate passages.
Review
Used this brush a few times, it seems softer than others I have

Excellent brushes, my favourite Art Shop plus the prices are reasonable in comparison to other art shops. Also, they always have a good stock of materials.

New to me but so far very happy with these brushes. The real test is after several usages.
Review
Beautifully made brush with lovely copper ferrule. Feels good, with firm spring-back in the bristles, although time will tell if it keeps its shape.

Enjoyed using it - much better than ordinary hog.
Review
This is lovely brush. The bristles hold the paint well, it has enough strength for expressive brushwork and enough softness for more gentle passages. It actually looks great too. It looks more expensive than it actually is.
Review
Have other brushes from this series
Review
I have only put good because it has not made me an excellent artist yet but Iwill keep hoping
Review
I have bought some previously and they really are excellent. They outclass all other brands in that price bracket and some higher priced ones.

Does the intended job very well. I like that the bristles are slightly 'softer' than that of other brands.

A while ago I bought the No.2 round for oil. I've since given it a lot of hard use, and it's still working well, though it's completely lost the fineness of the point. Now I find it is excellent for scumbling, as the softness of the bristle leaves almost nothing in the way of marks. Superb value for mine, well constructed, wouldn't want to go without one now.

This is for the whole range as I have a few. The first thing that you notice is the gorgeous finish. The second is the excellent balance which is vital and something that brush makers don't always get right, but Jackson's have I have had these brushes for two years and I can honestly say that the firmness and spring has remained very true to the new brush and has certainly not become 'spongy' like some brushes. Although I use these mainly for landscapes, I have also painted other subjects, and I find that a very crisp line can be made with these, particularly with the Filberts. I love these, and they are for me the best Oil brushes that I own, and I own a lot from different manufacturers! Fab!

Fine for purpose
Review
Truly beautiful brushes! Not only do they look great with the sleek matt black handles and copper ferrule, but the bristles are superb. Much better than many top brands and my oil brush of choice. I only wish Jacksons made them in long flat sizes, then I would probably use nothing else but Jacksons Black Hog brushes.
Review
Superb! Quite stiff hairs, but the same 'spring' as a sable: holds a point well, follows the movement of the hand gracefully, then springs back to its initial position! Truly a heavy duty version of a sable!
Review
If ever a beauty contest was held for paint brushes, these brushes would win hands down . I bought a size 12 round series 333 and a size 12 flat series 334. They far exceeded my expectations. Go and buy these brushes. Not only do they look good they balance superbly in the hand and the quality of the black hog is incredible. What a treat.
