Molding Paste
Pastes can be used to achieve a variety of effects and expressions. When used in conjunction with acrylic colors they broaden working properties and expand creative possibilities. Unlike gels, pastes are opaque because they contain Marble Dust or other fillers that create a white or clay-tone finish with a variety of textures and properties. Molding Paste can also be used to create foundations for painting either to create texture over a smoother surface, or to smooth out a textured surface. Extra Heavy / Molding Paste - A blend of Extra Heavy Gel Gloss and Molding Paste. Dries to a satin, semi-opaque finish. Excellent for increasing viscosity and building surfaces. (Item# 3110)
Extra Heavy Molding Paste
Hard Molding Paste - Dries to a extremely hard, opaque film, it is useful for creating tough, durable finishes for smooth or textured surfaces. Once dry, it can be carved with hand or power tools. Blends easily with acrylic colors. (Item# 3571)
Hard Molding Paste
Light Molding Paste - Offers dramatic weightreduction used in thick layers. Wet product is over 50% lighter than GOLDEN Molding Paste. This dramatic weight reduction is beneficial in creating large artworks, have thick material build-up, or both. Light Molding Paste dries to an opaque, matt finish. It is designed to hold stiff peaks for highly textured surfaces and it blends easily with colors. (Item# 3575)
Light Molding Paste
Coarse Molding Paste - thick, warm white colored medium, translucent up to about 1/8 inch thickness. Dries to a hard, stiff but flexible film with a tooth like fine sandpaper. Accepts wet and dry media very well. Mix with Fluid or Heavy Body Acrylics to create dense paint that holds good peaks and dries matt to satin with a finely pebbled surface. (Item# 3572)

Golden Hard Molding Paste. Jackson's notes - 'Dries to a extremely hard, opaque film. This product is useful for creating tough, durable finishes for smooth or textured surfaces. The dried film can be carved with hand or power tools'. The salient word is 'film'; the misinformation 'extremely hard'. Yesterday I applied a layer varying from 1mm-4mm. Twelve hours have passed; a thin skin has formed which is soft to touch and is easily punctured. At the thickest point, the medium is paste consistency. Confident in the usually exacting standards of Golden products, I had purchased a 946ml tub. It does not satisfy the descriptive and for my specific purposes is of no use. This genuinely hard up art student has wasted £30.95 If you want hard, as in 'extremely hard', Liquitex = ***** Vallejo= *** Golden= *

For a few years I have used Liquitex modeling paste. I now know it is by far the best 'hard set' paste. The medium cures quickly, is quite firm within an hour. once fully set it is 'stone like'. It is workable with an array of tools and can be sanded and buffed to a beautiful smooth, even, soft white finish. On the grounds of cost, forgive the pun, I tried Vallejo: Acrylic White Stone Modeling Paste Medium, Extra high density acrylic paste containing marble dust and titanium white.
