Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilise all traditional painting techniques without compromise.
Primary Uses for Gamsol:
Thinning oil colors. A little goes a long way; stiff oil colors relax immediately when a little Gamsol is added. Be careful not to thin oil colors too much with solvent alone, this can compromise the ability of the paint to form a paint film. Modifying painting mediums. Gamblin's Galkyd line of painting mediums is formulated with Gamsol, so they readily accept Gamsol as a thinning agent. Note: Gamsol should not be added to painting mediums made with natural resins (dammar, copal, mastic). They require strong solvents such as turpentine. Studio clean up: brushes, palettes, palette knives, etc.
How does Gamsol achieve this level of performance and safety' Most solvents available to artists come from the industrial paint industry where solvent power and cheapness is prized. Gamsol is special: it is made for products and processes that come into more intimate contact with the body such as cosmetics, hand cleaners, and cleaning food service equipment.
Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Aromatic solvents are the most harmful types of petroleum solvents.
These facts are detailed in the MSDS for Gamsol, this document shows that it has an Exposure Limit Value higher than most solvents available to artists. In addition, Gamsol's flash point is so high it can ship via air cargo as a non-hazardous material.
All of these factors have lead to Gamsol being used widely in oil painting classrooms; in those classes there are no solvent odours, only the wonderful smell of oil colors.

Odour free is a real plus. Used with my oil paints & for a quick brush clean.
Great product. This is my second bottle.
Gamsol is the only thing I can use that doesn’t give me a headache. Great product, genuinely completely odourless.
Just started using this medium. It is totally odourless and dries fast .
No smell! Wonderful. After use leave pigment to settle, strain the clear Gamsol and reuse.
Great prompt service, thank you.
A good product much nicer to work with than turpentine.
Arrived very quickly with the rest of my order. I havn`t tried this product yet. It has a good reputation though. hence my purchase.
Brilliant for cleaning oil brushes & for mixing with their oil painting medium
No odour... No evaporation. Much safer than other brands and not available from many other UK art material suppliers.
All the Gamblin products are a perfect family and work best together, so I use the medium and the mineral spirit as they are odourless and safer for it. The smell from the more pungent products like real turpentine is one I personally don't mind, but the fumes from it can give headaches and unless the studio is well ventilated can cause headaches. The Gamblin Mineral spirit is a good quality spirit and can be recycled after use and allowing paint residue to settle - the spirit clears and can be reused for thinning the Galkyd or keeping brushes clean. It lasts for some time and can be recycled over several work sessions.
Used it for cleaning varnish brush. Very good.
Excellent brush cleaner and medium to boot. Odourless and least volatile
It's the only mineral spirit I use, love it
no smell, easy to use its great, used it on this picture of Kynance Cove in Cornwall
