Beware! I bought a 15ml tube of this colour because I had been using it from a 5ml tube, bought three months earlier. The new 15ml tube (in a new pack), although its description remains the same, is a totally different colour - much darker and dirtier. It's a total waste of £12.80 - not suitable for my purpose at all.

Great colours, but some tubes were overfilled so all paint squirted out - not great especially as these are not cheap. And then having to clean tops of tubes to try and prevent tubes sticking solid was a bit of a bore.

I bought this originally for the dark centres of sunflowers, where it worked beautifully with the yellows. Lovely, rich vibrant colour. Have tried dropping this into Daniel Smith's granulating colours for some interesting effects.

I was a little disappointed with this, not with the quality, which is excellent as always with Daniel Smith, but it was not so vibrant as I had hoped. So far, I prefer it as a thin wash or glaze, but it does have a nice lustre in the more full-bodied application.

This paint is fine and well known to me

I'm a big fan of the Daniel Smith Primateks range. This has a soft black mass tone with underlying shades of deep maroon. Granulates gently - and has a lot of personality on the page.

I was so excited to buy what is my first purchase of DS paints! I tried them out the minute I received them. In fact, that very same week, I used them in a painting. But, while the colours were fine and so were the paints, they really werent as amazing as I'd expected, considering how other artists rave about them. They werent any better than cheaper paints I've used, and I really dont understand why they cost the earth.

This and the Lunar Blue is my first DS experience. I like the granulation properties of this colour, but its not as beautiful as I'd imagined, having heard several famous artists rave about them. So far I'm not unduly impressed by DS, especially since they cost so much more than other brands, but dont seem to stand out enough to justify the cost.

The Lapis Lazuli Genuine lacks the coveted bright blue color. With Daniel Smith, this precious and coveted pigment turns into a meaningless non-luminous grayish blue. Too bad.

This is fantastic, I love the way the colour splits and granulates, you have subtle changes in the colour as it dries with strong violets and nice deep grey, with hints of blue separating. Highly recommend this colour.

Daniel Smith gold watercolour paint is absolutely stunning - you could be mistaken it's gold leaf.

It is the most amazing watercolour paint I have ever tried! Like a magical box which opens up in front of your eyes, changing colours and opening up hidden gems of viridian, pinks and magical deep purples. It is a pure magic, I can't believe my eyes everytime I paint with it. The granulation is above compliments, bravo, Daniel Smith! You make me want to paint more in more with this! Can't recommend it highly enough!

The usual light blue, there is no granulation at all. This is the third color of the five that I ordered, which does not match the manufacturer's description.

This color is my disappointment of the year. Boring gray-green without any granulation. This color is completely different from the manufacturer's photo. Maybe I got a tube from a defective lot, but such cases fundamentally undermine the trust in the brand.

This colour makes you reminisce the now dead PO49. This is really a colour to talk about. How could you paint sunsets without it?

This is a lovely paint and I love the colour and clarity you get with Daniel Smith paint.

Lovely paint but I have only given 3 stars because the colour in the tube I have bought is very different from the sample on the DS dots sample card. The sample was a definite, inky blue but the colour in the tube I've received can really only be described as a cool black. Not much point in having a sample card if they don't match up with what you buy. I would be interested to know if the Primatek colours have an inherent variation due to coming from natural mineral deposits. The good points though are that the granulation is amazing and mixing with other colours produces an interesting black, gritty overlay.

Took a while to find the perfect pigment for poppies, this Transparent Pyrrol Orange is so just right it is yummy! Dries beautifully evenly in glowing washes.

I have only had time to experiment a little with this colour but I am pleasantly surprised at the granulation.

Colour different to what I expected,a very much deeper tone,more plum than soft pink,must say I am disappointed with this one.

I'd say it's a bit weaker than other ochre paints from various brands I've tried so far. Definitely more difficult to rewet than other DS paints on the pallette.

A nice reddish and deeper alternative to quinacridone gold, I like as an alternative to burnt sienna.

I have found this to be a beautiful transparent yellow

Vibrant, moderately sedimentary ultramarine, handles well as a wash or less dilute

Lovely, very finely milled so not as gritty as some brands of this pigment.

Delighted with it, it mixes great with a quinacridone pink to get a less granular equivalent to cobalt violet. Well almost, a little duller but the best I've ever done for an intense transparent red-violet. Makes lovely greys too.

I was very pleased to order this colour as it is often difficult to find.

I don't know what the fuss is about I found then to be no better that WN which are week in colour,and not as intense as they make out!-Some colours, remain softer then others in dry form. Expensive and full of American hype

This is an amazing pigment, really good for colour mixing. Like the results much better than with cerulean. A lot less chalky. Very vibrant and transparent.

great bright colour

I've used Winsor & Newton, Schmincke Horadam and Daler Rowney watercolours for years, but this is my first taste of Daniel Smith. There's no doubt they are much more expensive, but frankly in a different league of quality. Finely ground, the colour explodes on the paper and there's a wealth of much more interesting colours to choose from. Quinacridone Burnt Scarlet is italian tiles, rusting iron farm buildings, dying bracken - you get the idea !

Love the Daniel Smith colours but they react rather differently to other watercolours so need a bit of practice.

Really nice, deep colour -compared to the regular quin gold, which although is also a lovely colour, does not give the warmth and depth that this "deep version" does.

Having tried the try it dot colour card I expected it to be a brighter stronger colour. But it's just like W&N Burnt Siena.

Never use black in watercolour they say! BUT if you like texture in your rocks, foreground etc, a la John Piper, John Blockley, Michael Morgan etc, this is the colour to use. Magnificent and unpredictable granulation effects.

fantastic transparent colour with antwerp blue it makes a magnificent green excellent in wet into wet paintings and gives a rich warm yellow gold in backgrounds.

this is super and an excellent transparent replacement for burnt sienna. It makes a warm black with antwerp and a really dark black when mixed with ultramarine blue.

I think it's excellent - but I'd have to say I am not an experienced artist.

It has a bit of a gooey texture but nice when mixed with cobalt blue and/or raw sienna. Those 3 also make a nice grey.

This is an excellent colour with a variety of uses.

As a fantasy artist I wanted a colour for use in undersea scenes but I have found this colour extremely useful for my paintings of dragon flesh, fantasy woodlands and Elves of shadows. and also leaves and foliage of wildflowers and garden plants. It will stay as a permanent member of my palette collection.

Deeper colour than I expected

I am a fantasy artist painting my book illustrations and images for other products. At first I was disappointed in the colour not reflecting that shown online, but the more I use it, the more I realise how fascinating this colour is and how versatile its uses. I now intend to try more colours.

As the 'Info' says this is a lovely clear strong orange, but much more useful than the heavy opaque Cadmium Orange. A great landscape colour for sunsets as it's transparent. It mixes well to produce interesting greens and browns.

Don't be misled by the colour which appears on the screen or on the Jackson's colour chart (quite a few of the DS colours are not accurately shown !). This is not the red/brown shade you see, but a lovely golden raw sienna colour. Like all DS colours it rewets very well (much better than W&N Raw Sienna or W&N Yellow Ochre) and is semi-transparent, giving a glowing colour on the paper but also having enough 'presence' to achieve interesting effects.

I'm addicted to this lovely shadow colour, since a fiend introduced me to it. I've met other addicts since. Just wished the Daniel smith paints were a bit cheaper,but they are imported. It's a lovely original range

Still a lovely paint (Daniel Smith never disappoints) however the tube I got wasn't single pigment PR88 as advertised but instead a mix of PR202 and PB29. Kinda disappointing when you buy this especially because it's PR88.

I think I was a bit hasty in my judgement when I thought this yellow didn't mix good greens. I just painted a plant that has lots of leaves and the green (azo yellow + ultramarine) is very natural looking yet bright enough.

The most exciting color I've ever seen. It has a mind of its own with turning magically blue here and green there. I am in love with it.

Looks nothing like the swatch on the site; I cannot get it to be that dark no matter what, it does not granulate and seems to have glitter in it. I don't like it.

A very good yellow if you want to paint yellow. Strong, bright, clean. But not as good for an all in one yellow to use as yellow + mixing greens and earths. The greens are quite strong and opaque (I used PB 60 & PB 29) and look like they've been mixed using lemon yellow, because azo yellow has very little warmth. Nothing wrong with strong&opaque if you like that but I prefer more transparent. Surprisingly, the earths are quite weak. They do not have any golden glow, and they look rather cool and bland. So the need for a golden yellow arises. I used Schmincke Pure yellow before and have to say I would have been wise to stick with it, it is beautiful on its own, and mixes glowing earths and transparent natural looking greens. Pair it with DS Lemon yellow and you don't need other yellows.

The color is beautiful but very far from swatch... It looks like Malachite Genuine, but even more stronger.

This I saw on another's DVD too and on that it appeared warmer with a deep crimson/grey colour. Having tried it though it was slightly more grey than crimson but the granular quality of the paint didn't disappoint.

I saw this product on another artist's DVD and wanted to try it. It starts off like a chrome green but then partly transforms into an other worldly electric blue if more water is added. Amazing!

Love this colour: as a wash with a beautiful granulation, and also as a warmer addition to cold areas - this pigment will slightly remove the colder pigment (works wet-to-wet only of course). Yes, the pigment is light, but this makes the color so special.

An intense, vibrant orange which glows under more transparent glazes. Use sparingly, it is concentrated liquid fire, wonderful.

After lusting after this colour I was really, really disappointed with it. In fact hardly any colour more a granular watery grey blue than the bright blue I expected. Not worth paying the extra almost double price. Most disappointing experience. Would be interesting to try the test card first.

Beautiful and vivid, I love it. A great replacement for plain old burnt sienna.

The Daniel Smith swatches show it as a nice paint with some juicy midtones. In fact it's a bit muted violet with gentle glitter when dried. It feels velvety. If you know what amethyst crystals look like, this shouldn't be surprising. What impressed me is the tonal range I'm able to achieve with it. And the paint controls really nicely.

The effect it creates is amazing and very unpredictable, especially when working wet in wet.

I purchased this one together with Iridescent Goldstone and they both seem amazing (nice consistency, easily re-wettable). The iridescent effect of Electric Blue is better visible on dark surfaces though.

Have to say the most exciting pigment to discover in 22yrs of painting. Great mixer, spectacular granulation effects, seems to \"\"electrify\"\"/intensify some colours when they come into contact with it. Haven't found anything it can't do yet, just wish I had it when I first started painting -- play with it and be amazed.

Very strong pigment, lovely bright colour, can be rewetted very easily. Also great choice if you're low on your budget, hansa yellow is nice for mixing both warm and cold colors. I'm starting to believe the tube is going to last forever...

Wonderful and intense blue, the tube is just loaded with the blue pigment! I'm not used to these tube watercolors yet (I'm working mostly with pans) so I was quite surprised how fast it settles down. The color chart says medium staining but the effect seems quite strong to me. This could work for some nice texture effects. :)

This is a gorgeous mix for background shadow passages, deepening purples in florals and special effects. The granulation is lovely - the viridian and rose pigments peek out in a wash.

This has got to be the most glorious useful green watercolour available. It covers the range from very light but realistic mossy greens through sap greens through deep olive greens all in one tube. The granulation, with specks of browns, is gorgeous. One of the top paints I have ever used.

This is the most beautiful warm yellow I have used. Lovely in washes and mass tone.

Like many of the Primatek colours, you have to get used to how they work. This is a gorgeous granulating red-earth that can be used in place of Indian red. In a wash is can be glowing with dusty rose to crimson warmth but in mass-tone it is very dark. A number of colours in one. I love it.

I love this colour as a single primary red in a very limited palette. It does a great job as a cool red in a split primary palette too, and is lovely to paint with. Very smooth and rewets well in the palette. Makes gorgeous oranges with a yellow and purples with ultramarine.

This is my favourite yellow earth. The granulation is wonderful for beach scenes (with Buff Titanium), rocks and landscapes and I use it in place of yellow ochre or raw sienna for most of my work. Make sure you shake the tube sell though as it can separate in the tube.

I use this colour all the time. It is a fabulous granulating semi-opaque that is perfect for depicting rocks, beach scenes, seashells and so much more. I love it with Goethite - another granulating staple in my palette.

A joyous paint that heavily flocculates all over the place. Rich, velvety red-brown... Has some real ooomph! while still maintaining transparency.

I see someone else has beaten me to it! Probably a bad batch of lapis overblown with calcite and pyrite. Henceforth this paint is massively overpriced, dull, grey & weak (you'll ruin your brushes trying to get any strength of colour)... Nigh on useless! Prima-tek range seems to be an overpriced flop.

I must say that this colour leans much more to the green side than the sample suggests. Mine also came with a large air bubble (just my luck!). However it is a lovely colour. Easy to lift off and mixes fairly well. But

A wonderful, rich, deep green. Great granulation/flocculation effects. A must have! Maybe slightly more yellow than the picture shows. But achieves an intense dark upon layering.

I have several tubes of Daniel Smith watercolours and absolutely love them, especially the Quinacridones which are beautiful, rich colours. Quinacridone Fuchsia is a single pigment cool red, a little bluer than quin. rose in tints but not as blue as quin. magenta. At full strength it's a strong, deep reddish pink. Washes are lovely and smooth, making it perfect for floral paintings. I can also recommend the quin. gold, it's still made with the rare PO49 pigment and is the most beautiful earth colour. It's great to find a UK supplier of this wonderful range.

I am so happy to be able to source Daniel Smith watercolors through Jackson's. They are lovely to work with and give a lovely depth of colours. The transparent colours are really good and allow the paper brightness come through and give the painting a lovely depth and g quality of colour.

Extraordinarily weird and wonderful product... a gorgeous green that splits out a clear turquoise round the margins on damp - paper. Love it!!
