RGH Artists' Oil Paints, Inc. was founded in 1989 by artist Rolf Haerem. Born in England in 1944 to a family of artists, Haerem studied art and eventually moved to the United States in his early 20s, continuing his studies at Pratt Institute, NY. He received his MFA degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1980. He was also a painting instructor at SUNY New Paltz.
While living in New York City, Rolf searched for large quantities of quality, inexpensive oil paints, but realized there was nothing suitable on the market. He decided to explore the process of making his own paints, eventually purchasing a small three-roll mill and making paint for his own needs. Soon after he began to make paint for his fellow artists, and RGH was founded.
Having grown from humble beginnings, RGH now produce over 140 different colors of paint and dry pigment. They also offer customized paint and pigment options for individual artists, art institutions, and art students. RGH paints are manufactured in small batches to ensure maximum quality control. They use only the purest pigments and do not use extenders.
