Info

Still handground in the Blockx tradition with slowly rotating stone mills, Blockx extra-fine artists' colors are made from the finest selection of pigments and oil.

Only pure pigment is used for maximum lightfastness, buttery consistency and easy mixing on the canvas itself.

All colors have a minimum lightfast rating 7 out of 8 on the blue wool scale. So they all can be considered perfectly lightfast.

Iron oxides, earths and blacks are ground with linseed oil. All other pigments are ground with poppyseed oil which is well-known for its lack of yellowing and the non-forming of wrinkles at the time of the drying.

Blockx titanium white is the best oil paint I've used. Worth the money.

I have used these paints before, they are expensive but excellent.

Great paint. Very opaque and even has a nice consistency straight out of the tube. Manages to be bright without appearing artificial, which makes it a unique choice for nature subjects.

I think that these rival Michael Harding's paints, and that really is saying something! A bit pricey but they have a heavy pigment load, and their colours are true, as this Cerulean is, not spurious in any way, but the proper colour. The texture is slightly thicker than most, and the tubes are always very well filled with no air bubbles like Sennelier have sometimes. Excellent paints.

When used in thin applications on a rigid mount, such as a gesso panel, the slow drying time of Zinc white and poppy oil,is mitigated by the semi absorbent ground. The clarity of poppy oil and it's longer working period can be useful to the serious painter.

What do Blockx do to this to make it such a pleasure to use? Because it is. But I also wonder: does it cost so much more to produce? The price is a stretch for me.
