Recently I finished a watercolour painting on Arches' 300 lb. not paper, 41 x 29.5 inches, after not having used the brand in a while--I also love Saunders Waterford. I abused the paper, using heavy washes, then scrubbing them out. I took razor blades to areas to scrape off bits of dried paint. I used masking tape and frisket. There was nothing this paper couldn't handle. It held up to any challenge I threw at it. Absolutely beautiful, robust and trustworthy watercolour paper. Don't bother with the cheap stuff, you get what you pay for.

The paper is taking some getting used to- this may be due to the fact that it's so big. I previously had the block of arches, but needed the biggest sized paper that didn't come in a block. I've only taped the edges to a board and have found it difficult to keep a flat surface. I would buy this paper again as it's lovely to work on, but I may go for a heavier weight. Overall I'm happy with paper, just need to learn the best way of handling it.

My favourite watercolour paper , takes masking fluid , but keeps it surface .

I love the way that the paint granulates on the paper.

I rarely use anything else. Worth the expense as it can take a lot of layers and easy to remove mistakes which isn't always possible with watercolour.

Quality as expected for this well known product

The packaging was excellent - the paper arrived in perfect order, perfectly flat and protected by both a plastic bag well taped to the box, and air bags.

The very hard robust surface of arches paper gives a brightness to watercolours. The paintings can be reworked with going muddy. The achilles heal of arches paper was the 'lift off\" technique wasn't easy to perform ....... compared to other papers. This now easy to achieve with the \"magic sponges\", readily available in UK.

The paper is great quality and beautiful to use watercolours on. The paint absorbs into the paper to allow you to do more washes and prevents the colours becoming 'muddy'. It is the best paper I have ever used.

My go-to paper. Not the cheapest, but the best never is. Extremely robust, well-sized but still allows pigment to settle into the paper, allowing subsequent washes. I use up to half sheets without stretching.

Over the years I've tried many different brands of watercolour paper but for my big brush, big washes style of painting Arches is the best, I always buy the 140 not and stretch it first, once stretched it will take any amount of water without buckling, it's a very predictable, quality paper. I'm just ordering another 20 sheets to be cut in half by Jacksons. Excellent service as always!

I agree that this paper is lovely and is just what I need, yet at the same time I would not buy it online unless I knew how good it was. Since I do, I am buying ten sheets!

So amazing, this paper is a thing of un-paralleled beauty, I sometimes feel bad drawing on it's beautiful surface!

This is by far my favourite brand of watercolour paper and I have tried plenty! I usually buy full sheets and cut them to size, as this proves to be far more economical, particularly at the listed, discounted prices. It has a beautiful surface that is very resilient to corrections. I also use HP & rough but I use the NOT surface the most, as it's a good all-rounder. I do tend to stretch the paper for particularly wet washes or larger paintings, but I have had no problems in taking un-stretched 1/4 size imperial paper along to art classes. I don't recommend in buying cheaper or lighter weight papers, as that may end up being a false economy and may well reduce your enjoyment of the painting process!

HP paper 140lb Arche is my favourite paper as I can get a more precise finish to my artwork.The sizing on the 140lb HP Arche is the best as it does not absorb the paint and allows sharper lines when using dry brush work.HP paper 140lb Fabriano Artistico and the new white are 2nd best.Sylvia Balch

Superb, I had heard all about this paper but, it's so much higher quality than I thought it could be and a dream to work on. The most surprising thing was, the back of the paper is brilliant for detailed realistic work in graphite. Wonderful stuff.

I bought this as part of a series of samples for a group painting project – I am not a fan of Arches papers
